For My Mom

This post is gonna be a little different than my other ones. In this post I want to acknowledge someone who is so often taken for granted. This is for my mom.

The Woman Who Fears the Lord

 An excellent wife who can find?
    She is far more precious than jewels.
 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
    and he will have no lack of gain.
 She does him good, and not harm,
    all the days of her life.
 She seeks wool and flax,
    and works with willing hands.
 She is like the ships of the merchant;
    she brings her food from afar.
 She rises while it is yet night
    and provides food for her household
    and portions for her maidens.
 She considers a field and buys it;
    with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
 She dresses herself with strength
    and makes her arms strong.
 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
    Her lamp does not go out at night.
 She puts her hands to the distaff,
    and her hands hold the spindle.
 She opens her hand to the poor
    and reaches out her hands to the needy.
 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
    for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself;
    her clothing is fine linen and purple.
 Her husband is known in the gates
    when he sits among the elders of the land.
 She makes linen garments and sells them;
    she delivers sashes to the merchant.
 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
    and she laughs at the time to come.
 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
    and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
 She looks well to the ways of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.
 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:
 “Many women have done excellently,
    but you surpass them all.”
 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
    and let her works praise her in the gates.
Proverbs 31:10-31

Mom, where to start? Volumes of books could be written about you and it wouldn't be enough. Many women have done excellently, but you have truly surpassed them all. No matter how frustrating or difficult things get you never lose it. Despite having 5 kids, a house that just can't seem to stay clean, and a million other jobs besides, you still are able to be the best mother the world has ever seen. You always love me no matter what. No matter what scheme I've gotten my self entangled in. No matter how much I fail to be a good son. No matter how often I take you for granted or forget to tell you how much I love you. Thank you mom. Thank you for always being here for me. Thank you for taking time to raise me and guide me. It's not an exaggeration when I say you've shaped the person I've become. In my eyes you perfectly embody the picture the Bible gives of a godly woman in Proverbs 31. No you're not perfect. Who is? But I wouldn't have any other mother but you. No one even comes close to how amazing you are. As I said I could write volumes about you and it wouldn't be enough. But let the story of my life be a testament to how great a woman and mother you are.

To all the other moms out there: If I could dare to reword a Bible verse for one second, "This is my beloved mother in whom I am well pleased." She is the example of what a good, no, great mother should be. I challenge all of you to follow her example. (And yes, this is the completely biased opinion of a loving son)

I love you mom. Keep letting God work in and through you. You make such an impact on everyone you meet. I'm proud to call you my mother.

Love,

Your Adoring Son.
